Sometimes the things we think are helping, are the things keeping us stuck

Therapy for when your thoughts are running the show

HELLO, I’M ERIN

I’m an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with a background in mental health nursing. I started On Second Thought as a space to slow things down and look beneath the surface; to make sense of what’s going on for you, and to explore what might help you move forward with more clarity and freedom.

Over the years, I’ve seen how differently people can experience and make sense of their mental health, and this has shaped the way I work: with curiosity, collaboration and without assuming there’s one right way forward.

WHAT BRINGS PEOPLE HERE

There are lots of reasons someone might come to therapy:

HOW I WORK

Understanding first. Then experimenting with change.

While my work is grounded in evidence-based CBT, I also draw on approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy.

Our initial sessions will focus on understanding what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to be different. Together, we'll explore the patterns in your thoughts and behaviours, and consider how your past experiences may be shaping the present through developing a shared understanding of what's going on.

From there, therapy becomes a space to experiment with change - learning to recognise and respond to unhelpful thoughts differently, trying new behaviours and gradually stepping out of patterns that may be holding you back.
